Shell Pearls are made from the inner lining of oyster shells, which is also known as Mother of Pearl, Paua or nacre (material produced by some molluscs as an inner shell layer; it is also the material of which pearls are composed). The organic material is ground to a fine powder, shaped, dyed and coated with natural pearl nacre and then a protective coating to give it lustre. Shell pearls are quite stunning and much less expensive than saltwater pearls.
